Women still swoon for Ryan Gosling's Notebook character Noah in the tear-jerking hit love story, but critics are more impressed by his knack for edgier roles: a Jewish neo-Nazi, a serial killer, and an inner-city junior high teacher with a drug addiction in Half Nelson.
